Rejoin a Running Assessment After a Dropped Connection

August 27, 2026 · InfraScout Team

A chat turn in InfraScout is deliberately detached from the request that started it. Close the tab, lose Wi-Fi, sleep the laptop — the stream stops and the assessment keeps running on the server. That is the right design for work that takes minutes and touches real hosts.

Chat now behaves consistently with it.

The state that was missing

The conversation view had two states, streaming and stopped, and needed a third: no live stream here, but the server says a turn is still running.

Without it, a dropped connection looked like a failure. You were told to resend, and offered a Retry — which would have started a second turn alongside the first one still working, producing two full agentic runs against the same hosts and two answers to the same question.

In that third state the conversation now:

  • Withdraws Retry, because there is nothing to retry.
  • Delivers what you type to the live turn as a steering message rather than starting a new one.
  • Keeps Stop working.

The answer arrives on its own when the turn finishes. There is nothing to poll and nothing to click. The resend advice survives only for a turn that has genuinely stopped, which is when it is the right advice.

Underneath, a turn holds a durable claim on its conversation while it runs, so a second turn cannot start alongside the first — the attempt is refused rather than accepted. The claim is kept alive by a heartbeat rather than given a fixed expiry, because a turn has no useful upper bound on duration: a single tool may be allowed an hour, and a question to you parks the run for ten minutes waiting on an answer.

Start Chat is always reachable

Separately, the chat launcher had the Start Chat button below a scrolling grid of tool group cards, where a short window could leave it off screen entirely.

It now sits in a bar pinned to the bottom of the form, alongside the audit notice and a summary of what you are about to start: Auto-selection when you have picked nothing, or the number of tool groups selected and roughly how many tokens their definitions will cost.

That token figure is the one worth a glance. It is charged on every turn of the conversation, so it is considerably cheaper to notice before you start than in the cost footer afterwards.

Chrome that fits its panel

The conversation view now sizes itself to the panel it is in rather than to the browser window. If you keep chat pinned in a sidebar or in a floating panel, a narrow panel gets the narrow layout instead of the desktop layout compressed into a small box.

The header collapsed to a single row — title, then provider, tool groups and cost as chips, then the task plan — with the full tool group list behind a chip you click, and the rollup and end-conversation actions folding into an overflow menu when the panel is narrow.

And a small one: a conversation's generated title now follows the language you wrote in. Ask a question in German and the title is in German rather than defaulting to English.

See Chat for the full conversation surface.
