The Portal Shows When a Proxy Cuts Its Live Updates

October 13, 2026 · InfraScout Team

The portal keeps a connection open to InfraScout so agent status, assessment progress and new findings appear without a reload. Some corporate proxies cap how long a single connection may last, often at a minute. The portal reconnects each time, so nothing visibly breaks. But anything that changed between a cut and the reconnect only shows up when you reload the page, and nobody could tell this was happening.

What the Dot Tells You Now

The status dot in the portal's navigation bar now distinguishes four states:

DotMeaning
Live updates are active.
The portal is reconnecting.
Live updates have been down for more than a few seconds. The portal keeps retrying.
Connected, but the connection keeps being cut within minutes of opening.

The last one is new. After three connections in a row end within five minutes of opening, the green dot gains a fading yellow ring. Hover over it for the explanation: a proxy or firewall on your network may limit how long a connection can stay open. The ring clears once a connection stays open past that window.

A dot that is down is now red instead of grey, matching the API badge next to it. It only turns red if updates are still down a few seconds after the connection dropped. So the routine renewal about every 30 minutes, or a release on our side, shows only a brief yellow.

What to Ask Your Network Team

If you see the ring, the fix is on your network's side. Long-Lived Connections Through a Proxy lists the three portal paths that need to stay open: live updates, streamed chat answers, and resumed chat answers. It also covers the three proxy behaviors to exempt them from: a maximum connection duration, response buffering, and idle timeouts under a minute. The same limit also explains a chat answer that stops streaming partway and only appears in full later.

In the same release, the portal stopped reopening its live-update connection over and over in some situations where one connection would do. Fewer connections means less noise in your proxy's logs.
